Timing

Traffic patterns to plan around

Friday afternoons westbound (roughly 3 PM to 7 PM) are heavy approaching the Poconos from any direction. NYC and northern NJ origins typically hit I-80 backups around Parsippany and Netcong; Philadelphia and eastern PA origins hit I-476 slowdowns near the Lehigh Valley.

Sunday evenings eastbound (about 2 PM to 7 PM) are heavy on the return for every origin. I-80 East near the Delaware Water Gap is the worst pinch point and affects NYC, NJ, and CT travelers alike.

Off-peak runs can save 30–45 minutes. A Thursday-night arrival or a Monday-morning departure usually means open roads. Winter storms add unpredictable delays — checking PennDOT's 511PA travel information alongside your home-state DOT before leaving is worthwhile from December through March.

Without a car

By bus, train, or air

Bus

Martz Trailways runs daily service from New York's Port Authority Bus Terminal to several Pocono stops, including Mount Pocono — the closest to the cabin and about 10 minutes away by rideshare. Service typically runs several times a day with more frequency on Friday and Sunday. NJ travelers can sometimes catch Martz at stops along the route. There is no equivalent direct bus from Philadelphia to the Poconos; Philly visitors without a car typically rent one or take Amtrak or regional rail to NYC and connect to Martz.

Train

There is no direct passenger rail to Tobyhanna or Mount Pocono. The nearest Amtrak service is in Scranton, which is not a practical transfer for most travelers. Philadelphia travelers can take SEPTA and Amtrak to NYC then connect to Martz, but driving is faster and cheaper.

Air

The closest commercial airports are Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AVP), about 45 minutes from the cabin, and Lehigh Valley (ABE) in Allentown, about 60 minutes away. For visitors connecting through New York, Newark Liberty (EWR) is roughly 1 hour 45 minutes by car and often the most convenient NYC-area airport because it sits on the route west. For Philadelphia connections, Philadelphia International (PHL) is about 2 hours away. All have rental car desks.

Rideshare

Uber and Lyft operate in the Poconos but coverage is thinner than New York City. Wait times can be longer, especially on weekend evenings. Travelers arriving by bus are encouraged to schedule a pickup a few minutes ahead of the bus arrival or to arrange a local taxi in advance.

Arrival

What to expect on arrival

Check-in is self-service starting at 3 PM through Airbnb or Vrbo. There is no front desk and no in-person meet-and-greet — access instructions are sent the day before arrival, so the door is ready when you pull in.

The cabin sits on a quiet residential road inside a wooded community. First-time arrivals are easier in daylight; the surrounding area is heavily treed and street lighting is minimal after dark. The driveway accommodates 3–4 vehicles, so a group splitting between two cars does not need to worry about street parking. Cell service in the area is generally good across major carriers, and Wi-Fi is available inside the cabin once guests are settled.

Last stop for gas and groceries

The last reliable place to fuel up and pick up groceries before the cabin is Mount Pocono, about 10–15 minutes from the property. Weis Markets has a full-service grocery store there, and several fuel stations sit along PA-940 and PA-611 near the I-380 exit. Travelers who prefer to stock up earlier will find larger supermarkets and big-box stores near the Tannersville and Bartonsville exits off I-80, roughly 20–25 minutes from the cabin.
